SUPERNOVA 1987A IN THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD
     S. M. Matz, National Research Council and Naval Research
Laboratory (NRL); G. H. Share, NRL; and E. L. Chupp, University of New
Hampshire (UNH), on behalf of their collaborators at the NRL, the
UNH, and the Max Planck Institute, Garching, report on recent
observations of SN 1987A using the Gamma-Ray Spectrometer on NASA's Solar
Maximum Mission satellite. No significant gamma-ray line emission has
been observed to date. Based on the most recent data available,
the following 3-sigma upper limits can be set on decay lines of 56-Cobalt
from the supernova: June 12-21, 0.0025 and 0.0018 photon/cm**2/s at
0.847 and 2.60 MeV, respectively; May 23-June 21, 0.0021 and 0.0010
photon/cm**2/s at 0.847 and 2.60 MeV. All limits are for the average
flux in the stated time interval.
Visual magnitude estimates: July 9.84 UT, 4.4 (R. H. McNaught,
Siding Spring Observatory); 10.59, 4.4 (A. C. Beresford, Adelaide,
South Australia); 11.35, 4.5 (D. A. J. Seargent, The Entrance,
N.S.W.); 12.49, 4.4 (Beresford); 13.34, 4.6 (Seargent).

NSV 6708
     R. H. McNaught, Siding Spring Observatory, reports that
observations by P. Williams, Heathcote, N.S.W., suggest that this object
is fading (cf. IAUC 4365), as indicated by the following visual
magnitude estimates: June 30.40 UT, 7.5; July 8.41, 7.8; 9.40,
7.8; 12.49, 8.0; 13.48, 8.4.

NOVA ANDROMEDAE 1986
Visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 4403): June 3.51 UT, 11.8

Italy); 17.55, 11.8 (Isles); 23.96, 12.5 (Boattini); 26.08, 12.5
(Boattini); 26.54, 12.0 (Isles); 29.53, 12.1 (Isles).

NOVA CYGNI 1986
Visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 4408): June 3.39 UT, 12.6
(Isles); 6.93, 12.5 (Boattini); 13.92, 12.6 (Boattini); 15.93, 13.6
(R. Monella, Covo, Italy); 16.48, 12.6 (Isles); 17.42, 12.7
(Isles); 17.94, 13.7 (Monella); 22.90, 12.7 (Boattini); 23.88, 12.7
(Boattini); 24.96, 12.6 (Boattini); 25.94, 12.5 (Boattini); 26.45,
12.7 (Isles); 27.89, 12.4 (Boattini); 29.33, 12.7 (Isles).
