Machholz reports the visual discovery with 27x120 binoculars of his fourth comet. The following observations are available: 1988 UT R.A. E. Machholz (Loma Prieta, CA). Comet diffuse with some condensation. Coma diameter 3'-5'. C. S. Morris (near Mt. Wilson, CA). 0.26-m reflector; coma diameter 3.7'. In 20x80 binoculars, m1 = 9.3, coma diameter 5.6'. D. Levy (Tucson, AZ). 0.41-m reflector; comet diffuse with slight condensation; on Aug. 8, 15' tail towards the west. R CORONAE BOREALIS P. L. Cottrell, Mount Stromlo Observatory; and W. Lawson, Mount John University Observatory, write: "We have obtained high resolution (< 0.1 nm) spectra, in a few wavelength intervals, of R CrB as it has gone into its current decline (cf. IAUC 4633). Spectra were obtained on the following dates: June 16, 20, 22, 24, July 5, 13, 23, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, and Aug. 1 and 2. Up until about July 23 (about 0.8 mag below maximum light) there was little change in the spectra we obtained (compared with spectra taken June 24), although after July 28 there was a rapid development of the emission lines. This was especially evident at the Na D lines, where between July 28 and Aug. 1 these lines went from multiple component absorption to multiple component (some at velocities of -150 km/s) emission features." Visual magnitude estimates: July 29.87 UT, 7.6 (J. Ripero, Madrid, Spain); 31.11, 7.8 (D. Kocyla, Southbury, CT); 31.92, 8.0 (P. Velasco, Madrid, Spain); Aug. 2.04, 8.4 (J.
