H. McNaught, University of Adelaide, reports his discovery of a supernova in an anonymous galaxy on an R plate taken with the 1.2-m U.K. Schmidt Telescope of the Anglo-Australian Observatory by P. McKenzie on Sept. 23.74 UT. The supernova (mag about 18) is located at R.A. = 3h51m07s.99, Decl. = -29 53'28".5 (equinox 1950.0), or 1".0 west and 5".5 north of the center of the galaxy. No image appears in this position on the ESO R survey film. SUPERNOVA 1990ab IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY M. Phillips, Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory, telexes: "A spectrum (range 585-1000 nm) of SN 1990ab obtained with the CTIO 1.5-m telescope on Sept. 25 UT shows that this object is a type-Ia supernova within a few weeks of maximum light. A redshift of 0.033 for the parent galaxy was measured from the same spectrum." DO DRACONIS J. A. Mattei, American Association of Variable Star Observers, reports that this object has undergone its first outburst since 1988 (cf. IAUC 4594), as indicated by the following visual magnitude estimates: Sept. 22.9 UT, [13.4 (P. Schmeer, Bischmisheim, W. Germany); 25.041, 13.5 (G. Dyck, N. Dartmouth, MA); 25.132, 11.5 (Dyck); 25.796, 10.0: (Schmeer). V482 CYGNI Visual magnitude estimates indicate that this R CrB-type variable is again fading: July 13.07 UT, 11.9 (P. Schmeer, Bischmisheim, W. Germany); Aug. 12.03, 11.9 (Schmeer); Sept. 11.97, 12.5 (Schmeer); 17.02, 13.0 (Schmeer); 18.1, 13.0 (J. E. Bortle, Stormville, NY); 19.91, 13.5 (Schmeer). PERIODIC COMET ENCKE Total visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 5085): Sept. 10.49 UT, 10.1 (C. S. Morris, Pine Mountain Club, CA, 20x80 binoculars); 16.38, 9.3 (J. E. Bortle, Stormville, NY, 0.32-m reflector); 17.44, 9.5 (A. Hale, Las Cruces, NM, 0.41-m reflector); 21.38, 9.1 (Bortle, 20x80 binoculars); 23.09, 8.8 (R. Haver, Monte Autore, Italy, 15x80 binoculars). 1990 September 25 (5101) Daniel W. E. Green
