SUPERNOVAE 1992R AND 1992ac IN MCG +10-24-007
     G. Gomez, Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias; and R. Lopez,
Universidad de Barcelona, report: "Optical spectra were obtained
on May 30.2 UT by G. Gomez, R. Lopez, J. Rey (La Palma Observatory),
and R. Catchpole (Royal Greenwich Observatory) with the 2.5-m
Isaac Newton telescope and the Faint Object Spectrograph (resolution
1 nm, range 320-1000 nm) at Observatorio del Roque de los
Muchachos, La Palma. A spectrogram of the nucleus of the galaxy
MCG +10-24-007 (R.A. = 16h36m15s.7, Decl. = +58 15'55", equinox
1950.0, Catalogue of Principal Galaxies) was obtained, indicating
that MCG +10-24-007 is an active galaxy. From the H-alpha and S II
emission lines, we derive a redshift of 0.05. A spectrogram of SN
1992R (cf. IAUC 5494) obtained in the same run suggests that this
object is a type-I supernova a few months after maximum. In addition,
another brighter starlike object was found, located about 4"
north of the SN 1992R; the spectrum of this object (SN 1992ac)
corresponds to that of a type-Ia supernova about 1 month after
maximum light."
