SUPERNOVA IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY
     E. P. Aksenov, Sternberg Astronomical Institute, cables that
N. E. Kurochkin has discovered a supernova 12" due south of the
nucleus of an anonymous galaxy at R.A. = 2h34m.6, Decl. = +33o27' (equinox
1950.0). On Sept. 24.95 UT the photographic magnitude was 16.5.

HD 5980
     S. van den Bergh, David Dunlap Observatory, reports that an
observation at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory on Oct. 2.26
UT gave V = 11.7 (cf. IAUC 2989, 2991).

   Well-condensed coma, diameter 15"; tail 90" long in p.a. 200o.

     E. Roemer, University of Arizona, writes that exposures with
the Steward Observatory's 229-cm reflector on Sept. 19 yielded
sharply condensed images of m2 ~ 16.3 with the slightest trace of
coma. Selected total visual magnitude estimates: Sept. 14.07 UT,
12.1 (J. Bortle, Brooks Observatory, 32-cm reflector); 20.10, 12.5
(Bortle); 23.28, 11.5-12.0 (C. S. Morris, Boalsburg, Pennsylvania,
15-cm reflector); 25.18, 12.4 (Bortle); 29.29, 11.5 (Morris).
