COMET CERNIS (1983l)
     M. Hanner, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, reports the detection,
during Aug 9-11 at the Infrared Telescope Facility, Mauna Kea, of
an absorption feature at 2.9-3.0 microns.

     Total visual magnitude estimates by C. E. Spratt, Victoria,
BC (0.2-m reflector): Aug. 17.40 UT, 10.3; 19.41, 9.8; 21.46, 9.6.

3C 446
     C. Barbieri, S. Cristiani and G. Romano, Asiago Astrophysical
Observatory, communicate that plates taken with the 0.67-m Schmidt
telescope on Aug. 4, 9 and 11 show the quasar 3C 446  (R.A. = 22h23m1,
Decl. = -5deg24', equinox 1950.0) at B = 15.1, the brightest ever
recorded for this object.

NOVALIKE OBJECT IN LIBRA
     Clarifying the report on IAUC 3854, J. Maza, University of
Chile, informs us that this object is present at mpg = 18.5 on the
ESO B Survey and on essentially monthly exposures at Cerro El
Roble since 1980. A further observation by L. E. Gonzalez at
Cerro Calan on 1983 Aug. 18.067 UT showed the object at mpg ~ 10.

GK PERSEI
     Further visual magnitude estimates (except photographic on
Aug. 9.0): Aug. 6, 10.6 (M. Verdenet, Bourbon-Lancy, France); 7,
10.5 (Verdenet); 9.0, 10.2 (I. Dalmeri, Asiago Astrophysical
Observatory); 10.37, 11.1 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY); 12.1, 10.5
(E. Mayer, Barberton, OH); 14.01, 10.1 (M. Cavagna, Milan, Italy);
16.12, 10.6 (Bortle); 20.47, 10.1 (C. E. Spratt, Victoria, BC);
22.30, 11.0 (C. Scovil, Stamford, CT); 24.09, 10.9 (Bortle).

SU TAURI
     J. Mattei, AAVSO, communicates the following visual magnitude
estimates showing recovery of this R CrB variable from the minimum
of 1982 Oct. (IAUC 3740, 3791, etc.): Apr. 10.1 UT, 12.9 (P.
Sventek, Houston, TX); May 5.1, 12.9 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY);
Aug. 3.3, 11.6 (C. Scovil, Stamford, CT); 10.2, 11.4 (Bortle);
14.2, 11.4 (Sventek); 16.3, 11.0 (Scovil); 21.3, 10.7 (Scovil).
