J. Pritchet, University of Victoria; and S. van den Bergh, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, report the discovery of an RR Lyr variable in the halo of M31. The object has been studied on 16 CCD frames, obtained with the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope in subarcsec seeing, of a field located 40' southeast of the nucleus of the galaxy. The variable has a mean magnitude slightly below B = 25, an amplitude of 1.5 mag and a period of 0.599 +/- 0.008 day. 1985 November 12 (4132) Brian G. Marsden
