A. Wehinger, Arizona State University, and M. J. S. Belton, Kitt Peak National Observatory, report that spectra were obtained of this comet on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and 2 with the Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory 4-m reflector (+ 2D-Frutti photon-counting system; spectral range 350-650 nm, resolution 0.44 nm). A continuum was detected with emission features of the CN(0,0) violet system and C3. Identification of other possible emission features await further data processing. On Feb. 1.1 and 2.1 UT, m1 = 20.6. 1987 February 5 (4311) Daniel W. E. Green
