Cable Address: SATELLITES, NEWYORK Western Union: RAPID SATELLITE CAMBMASS COMET ABE (1970g) Prof. M. Huruhata, Director of the Tokyo Observatory, cables that a new comet has been discovered by Abe. The following positions have been obtained by the discoverer (who described the comet as diffuse, without condensation) and by T. Seki, Kochi (who observed a central condensation): 1970 UT R. A. Roemer (University of Arizona). May 7 (with R. McCallister): 229-cm Steward Observatory reflector, Kitt Peak; cometary image quite soft and diffuse. June 7 (with R. C. Elliott): 154-cm Lunar and Planetary Laboratory reflector, Catalina. Measurer: B. Schreur. T. Seki (Kochi Observatory). From Yamamoto Circ. No. 1721. 1968 AA Dr. Elizabeth Roemer, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, reports that the magnitude derived from the well-centered June 7 plates (cf. IAUC 2255) is 17.2. This suggests that the object should be two magnitudes brighter than given in the new ephemeris; alternatively, the magnitude is subject to substantial variations. 1970 July 6 (2260) Brian G. Marsden
