The object is diffuse and condensed with no apparent tail. Her averaged measurements follow: 1983 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. m1 Sept. 7.31388 23 53 13.19 +20 37 55.8 16 7.33194 23 53 10.88 +20 37 32.2 COMET CERNIS (1983l) Total visual magnitude estimates: Sept. 4.35 UT, 10.0 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY, 20 x 80 binoculars); 6.32, 9.0 (C. E. Spratt, Victoria, BC, 0.20-m reflector); 8.32, 9.9 (C. S. Morris, Harvard, MA, 0.25-m reflector); 9.35, 9.7 (Bortle). NOVALIKE VARIABLE IN LIBRA B. E. J. Pagel, Royal Greenwich Observatory; and M. M. Phillips, Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory, report that a low-dispersion SIT-vidicon spectrogram obtained on Sept. 1.0 UT with the Cerro Tololo 1.5-m telescope showed strong H-gamma, H-beta and H-alpha emission. The apparent visual continuum magnitude estimated from this spectrum was 14.1 (cf. IAUC 3854, 3856). 1983 September 14 (3863) Brian G. Marsden
